Homelessness Week 4-10 August

Homelessness Week (4 – 10 August) is an annual awareness raising week to highlight the over 116,000 Australians who are homeless on any given night. The recent release of the 2016 census data on homelessness has confirmed an increase of 14% from 2011 to 2016.

The homeless rate across the country is 50 people per 10,000, with high numbers of homeless both in highly populated city centres but also in regional areas. Homelessness can affect anyone at any given time, in our region alone there are roughly 1002 homeless with this number increasing daily due to housing affordability, health reasons, financial difficulties – job loss, mortgage stress, domestic violence and relationship break-down .
